How we handle data
Who holds the information
Per Guide is the magazine behind this website, and it alone answers for each scrap of personal data mentioned here. That information is small in scope, and the rest of this notice traces where each piece comes from and where it ends up. Send any question to office@perguide.com.
The contact form and what it carries
The contact form on our Get in touch page has three fields, for a name, an email address and a message. When you press send, those three entries reach the magazine's inbox as an ordinary email.
We read the name so we know how to address the reply. The email address is where that reply goes. The message is the question itself, perhaps a sagging floor joist or a header over a door you want to widen. All three are kept for 12 months from the day they arrive, and then they are deleted.
Writing straight to the address above works the same way, under the same time limit.
Server records
Underneath every page sits a hosting server, and it writes a log line each time a page is requested. That line can include the IP address, browser type, the requested page and the time. The purpose is upkeep, which means keeping the site running and catching attempts to break into it. The log is not used to describe or follow any reader.
Cookies
Per Guide does not set tracking cookies or advertising cookies. Since there is nothing of that kind to approve, the site does not ask.
Selling and advertising
Per Guide does not sell personal information to anyone. Reader details are not given to advertisers, and messages are never used to aim ads at anyone.
Rights under state privacy laws
Several states, California first among them, have privacy laws that give residents specific rights over their personal information. Per Guide extends the same rights to every reader, so there is no need to work out which state law applies to you.
There are four. You can ask to know what we hold and receive a copy. You can ask for a correction where something is wrong. You can ask for deletion ahead of the 12 month limit. And you can opt out of any sale or sharing of your information, which we note on file even though neither takes place.
Make a request by email to office@perguide.com, or through the contact form, and say which right you are using. We may ask a question to confirm that the request is yours. A request will not change the way we treat you.
Children
Structural repairs and permits are adult business, and Per Guide is written for adult homeowners. The site is not intended for children under 13. It does not knowingly gather their personal information, consistent with the federal rule on children's data known as COPPA.
Any parent who believes a child has contacted us should email the address above to request deletion. We will remove it.
